Essential

I fell in love with a colleague from work. He’s arrogant, but I liked it. He’s controlling but I liked it. He was passionate and I really liked it. His smile and his hands set my heart on fire. We were essential workers so have worked through Covid, I saw him every single day for five months. Then nothing. He went home to his wife and kids. The fire has gone out in my heart and it’s icy cold. I walk around my home numb and alone, broken and empty and I know in my heart I will never replace what was lost.
