Great expectations (14/7/21): The Update

I had so many expectations for us. You were the light that shined in lockdown for me, the good thing that came from a terrible time in my (and everyone else’s life). We had lots of good times and I truly thought I’d found the person I would marry one day, and couldn’t wait for that to be the beginning of a new chapter.
But you started to look at me differently with the eyes of a stranger and by the end, I didn’t know where you’d gone, or why I was even trying anymore. My expectations were obviously too great, and now my heart is back to square one, no matter how much I loved you and will always love you.
